Job Description
ENGINEERING - EPIC GAMES SERVICES

What We Do

Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services and Epic's own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are some of the online features our Online Game Services team helps games utilize.

What You'll Do

As a member of the Identity team, you will craft high-performance online services at scale focused on authentication, authorization, and account management. Backend Engineers focus primarily on the platform API services and operating the infrastructure it runs on. Our highly collaborative environment focuses on quality, reliability, and usability. From design, implementation, and deployment, you can shape the services and features that drive the future of Identity in the Epic Games ecosystem.

In this role, you will
• Get things done: Epic empowers engineers to assess a challenge, craft a solution, and implement it
• Write distributed systems to handle large-scale challenges (we primarily use Java)
• Work with public cloud infrastructure to facilitate a fast-moving ecosystem (we use AWS)
• Own the entire lifecycle of services, including live operations and deployment
• Craft solutions using modern SQL and non-relational databases (we use MongoDB, Dynamo, and Redis)
• Collaborate in healthy ways with producers, product owners, and other engineers, cloud, infrastructure, or DevOps teammates to ship solutions
• Provide feedback and estimates on feature development and other operational tasks
• Own the outcome - Be accountable for the solutions you build and flexible around the ambiguity of the problem space

What we're looking for
• 4+ years of software engineering experience, with experience in developing online systems
• Solid background in writing distributed systems (REST / RPC / GraphQL) in large-scale environments
• Proven track record of operating live services
• Experience working with a distributed team of engineers to solve large and ambiguous problems
• Experience owning and supporting team projects and features, from technical design to development to deployment, with minimal oversight
• May mentor others on the team (i.e., interns, associates)
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide, solicit, and accept feedback constructively
• You are user-focused, friendly, pragmatic, and innovative. These traits equal success at Epic and influence everything we do

Note to Recruitment Agencies: Epic does not accept any unsolicited resumes or approaches from any unauthorized third party (including recruitment or placement agencies) (i.e., a third party with whom we do not have a negotiated and validly executed agreement). We will not pay any fees to any unauthorized third party. Further details on these matters can be found here.
