We are a new and growing team at Epic, aiming to build innovative new experiences and technology as part of our collaboration with Disney. As an Animation Programming Lead, you will work closely with our Unreal Engine, Metahuman, and Research teams to design, extend, and apply the next generation of animation systems and tools in support of our first party development efforts. If you have extensive experience in building runtime animation systems and tools, are passionate about raising the bar and want to be at the cutting edge of innovation, we would like to hear from you!
In this role, you will
• Designing and implementing animation features and tools in the context of shipping first-party games
• Building and leading a team of experienced programmers and technical animators
• Working with other technology teams at Epic to advance the state of animation technology across the company, including in the Unreal Engine
• Working with senior leadership to define vision of next-generation animation tools
• Researching and exploring novel forward-looking techniques, including machine learning
• Supporting internal and external customers
What we're looking for
• 10+ years experience building runtime animation systems and tools in major game franchise, real-time engine, or middleware
• Experience as a leader in an programming role, with demonstrated ability to lead a team effectively
• Experience writing tools and systems that improve the capability or efficiency of users
• A skilled software programmer, well-versed in software programming principles, with excellent C++ skills and debugging capability
• An expert in runtime animation technology (IK, Quaternions, Motion Matching, Motion Warping, Data Compression, etc.)
• Intrinsic motivation to work with content creators, solve problems, and create better tools
• Has shipped at least one game and/or product
This role is open to multiple locations across North America and Europe (including CA, NYC, & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren't limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic's generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
New York City Base Pay Range
$223,199 — $327,358 USD
California Base Pay Range
$245,519 — $360,094 USD
Washington Base Pay Range
$234,359 — $343,726 USD
