Commerce Writer, Serious Eats
About The Position |
• Regularly write and update product reviews and lists for Serious Eats, maintaining high-quality standards along the way
• Find and interview expert sources to provide background information and quotes for our lists and reviews
• Research and write supplemental content like factors to consider, pros/cons, FAQs, and more
• Use SEO tools, knowledge of the brand, competitor research, and market research to identify content improvements or adjustments
• Research new products, models, and trends to make sure we're making the best recommendations to our readers
• Assist in our testing process, whether evaluating and photographing products at home, writing up results, attending lab testing days, or gathering insights from testers or experts
• Contribute news and deals content during tentpole events and as needed
In-office Expectations: This position is fully remote with no in-office requirements, (might require coming into an office 1 or 2x a year)

This person will report to an editor and join a talented team that collaborates closely with various departments: News and Deals, Editorial, Social, Growth, Research & Testing, Production, Video, etc.
Serious Eats is an award-winning food and drink website visited by over 7 million hungry readers every month. Our audience comes to us for rigorously tested recipes, science-driven cooking techniques, robust equipment reviews, and stories that offer cultural and historical context to the foods we love to eat. Since it was founded in 2006, Serious Eats's editorial staff and contributors have included recipe developers, practiced home cooks, professional chefs, scientists, historians, journalists, photographers, novelists, and more. Members of our editorial team come from publications like America's Test Kitchen, Food & Wine, The New York Times, and Saveur; most have also worked in the restaurant industry and/or attended culinary school. Across the board, we're a group of passionate, opinionated food enthusiasts with a drive to dive deep, get things right, and do justice to any topic we take on.

The Role's Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Education:
• College degree or equivalent experience; culinary school or professional cooking experience a bonus
Experience:
• 2-3 years writing experience at an online publisher, ideally in the food space
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:
• A product enthusiast who spends time shopping and obsessing over purchases, particularly for the kitchen and entertaining
• Passionate about food, cooking, and drinks
• Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid writing skills, as well as a basic understanding of what works on the web
• Strong writer, capable of creating engaging, lively headlines and blurbs, all the while keeping the Serious Eats voice, values, and style in mind
• Self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new initiatives and directives are identified

Pay Range
Salary: Remote US: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
