Vice President, Production Safety (Disney Entertainment)

The VP, Production Safety is a forward-looking, visionary executive who will define, drive, and deliver strategies and risk assessments and mitigation to promote safety and continuous improvement for Disney Entertainment including Studio Productions, TV Scripted and Non-Scripted, and Stage Play. This role will consult with DE-TV and Studios Production executives and staff to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks in order to promote cast and crew safety; and ensure compliance with all applicable industry and Disney regulations and standards through program interpretation, training and auditing. The VP, Production Safety will partner with multiple stakeholders and integrate with productions to oversee work product development and reviews, direction, and systems, including training and auditing. They will closely coordinate with Risk Management, other Disney Safety organizations and industry safety executives to calibrate program health and leverage best practices. Foundational to the Vice President's success is the ability to provide inspirational leadership to a diverse cast base by motivating others toward success and driving engagement at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate has strong mastery and demonstration of risk assessment, influence, and communication skills particularly in production settings.

Scope includes production, both peer and executive support for all Disney Entertainment in General Entertainment, Studios and Disney Theatrical Group.

Responsibilities
• Lead the team responsible for developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures as well as the technical subject matter experts supporting Disney Entertainment.
• Collaborate with Production executives and staff, as well as Risk Management, Legal and HR/ER to ensure appropriate safety policies and governance.
• Prioritize mitigation of high-risks and manage appropriately, primarily through engineering controls, training, and auditing.
• Provide safety training and awareness programs for Disney Entertainment executives, staff, Safety Advisors and cast and crew members.
• Conduct safety program audits on set locations and facilities to assess the completeness of safety programs and training.
• Lead the Safety Executives to create a culture of safety focused on proactive identification and mitigation of emerging risks.
• Represent Disney Entertainment in external Safety Rulemaking, Safety Committees, and industry stakeholder consortiums.
• Together with production executives, measure the state of the Safety culture and develop ways to enhance understanding and commitment to Safety.
• Develop a world class Production Safety team.
• Demonstrate inspirational leadership by setting the vision, displaying realistic optimism, and creating a climate that engages the team and enables them to adapt their approach to match shifting demands.
• Identify threats and opportunities by maintaining a broad view of the internal and external environment, incidents, trends, and constant analysis of the industry.
• Demonstrate Creative Sensibility – formulate and effectively share thoughtful opinions that push the team to strive past good to great, recognize when an idea is off track and hold self and others accountable to deliver results.
• Ability to proactively assess the implication of safety decisions and adjust to meet the needs of stakeholders.

Qualifications
• The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety, working with regulatory agencies, safety design principles, and production.
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Safety, Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 15years of safety experience, with at least 5 years in the entertainment industry.
• 5+ years of executive leadership experience managing teams and leaders in multiple locations.
• CSP Certification or equivalent.
• Proven track record driving change, innovation, service excellence, and business results.
• Ability to assess and manage risk and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Ability to demonstrate inspirational leadership both internal and external to the safety organization.
• Cultural competence and comfort to diplomatically navigate and influence business relationships globally.
• Strong business acumen with ability to understand financial implications of decisions.
• Experience working with and collaborating with insurance, claims and other Risk Management peers and executives
• A visionary and passionate leader that prioritizes the development of talent and building a high-performance, diverse and inclusive culture.
• Comfortable working in a high volume, fast-paced environment and balancing competing priorities.
• Decisive decision maker with the ability to work under pressure and drive ideas into action.
• Experience working with the regulations and cultures of different countries.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel to locations worldwide when business needs arise.
• Ability to influence Creative and Production executives.
• Knowledge of filming regulations, stunt parameters, and industry safety standards.
• Must live within a commutable distance of Burbank CA (This position requires 4+ days onsite).

The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $229,100 to $307,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
