About the Role & Team

The Media Delivery team at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is responsible for the entire audio and video encoding supply chain from content acquisition to delivery for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Consisting of an agile and adaptable team of technicians that perform the daily processes and procedures of our live and on-demand video streaming products to deliver a high-quality experience to our viewers. The department's responsibilities provide round-the-clock support for these products, ensuring accurate functionality across all platforms and front-end playback scenarios. The team provides operational and procedural support for our partner products, including system health monitoring and incident management, live and VOD streaming media orchestration, and cross-team communications.

You will be required to work between Tuesday to Saturday and, work 2 days a week in the office.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Media Delivery Operator, you will work with a small but complementary team responsible for supervising and troubleshooting the VOD ingestion pipeline.
• Review audio/visual content against deadlines and coordinate with external partners to fix content to ensure deadlines are met.
• Research and normalize metadata
• Create tracking tickets for assets that need remediation and follow them to completion.
• Troubleshoot technical content issues with A/V, XML, and timed text
• Supervise the health of the encoding pipeline, checking for errors, rejections and failures, and provide technical and operational support.
• Identify and prioritise internal incidents, bringing up them to the appropriate technical teams in a timely manner.
• Update documentation and train team members on procedures.
• Provide ongoing status of the overall state of the ingest pipeline to senior staff.

50% Monitors the overall health of the ingest pipeline and supply chain.

20% Troubleshoots and debugs content issues, and raises to as appropriate.

20% Handles ad-hoc projects at the request of a coordinator or manager.

5% Training and Documentation

Required Qualifications & Skills
• BA/BS or equivalent experience required.
• 2+ years of relevant experience
• Background in video or film is helpful
• Solid Understanding of video codecs and encoding
• Familiarity video streaming, specifically HLS
• Understanding of closed captions and subtitles
• Basic understanding of XML and/or JSON
• Experience supporting VOD workflow or Digital Asset Management system
• Strong organizational skills, must be able to supervise large scale projects
• Strong multi-tasking abilities and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal mentorship

Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of Aspera or other advanced delivery systems
• English language proficiency
