Tax Manager

Job Description

Discovery is recruiting a Manager for a full-time position to manage and coordinate all tax matters for Discovery's entities in Turkey. This include coordination of all compliance requirements as well as tax issues that may arise in the course of business. The right candidate will have experience in local compliance and reporting of indirect as well as direct tax processes, working with SAP and Netsuite, implementing processes and controls, and strong management and organizational skills.
Our Team

Discovery's Tax team is located in the US, UK, Poland, Netherlands, Singapore and India. This role will be located in Turkey. This is a new role in the tax team. The role will report into the VP Tax EMEA is located in Poland as Poland is the base for Discovery's European Finance Team.

Responsibilities

This role is newly created to strengthen Discovery's local tax compliance function. This offers the suitable candidate the opportunity manage and coordinate all the tax matters relevant for Discovery's entities in Turkey. In particular, the role will involve the following responsibilities:
• Being a local Point Of Contact for Discovery's Finance teams for all tax related matters

• Managing all tax compliance activities in partnership with the Co-Sourcing partner and ensuring compliance with indirect as well as direct tax laws.

• Reviewing and approving returns prepared by the Co-Sourcing partner.

• Driving improvements and efficiencies in processes and reporting.

• Optimizing engagement with global Finance teams to ensure the integrity of data and correct implementation of tax accounting.

• Supporting and managing tax audits and controversies.

Requirements

Critical to success:
• The successful candidate must have a proven track record of managing tax compliance matters in Turkey.

• The candidate must have a sound knowledge of Turkish tax regulations, be familiar with local accounting regulations as well as US GAAP reporting environment.

• The ability to prioritize competing demands on time.

• The ability to clearly and appropriately influence and communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders both written and verbal.

• The ability to confidently deal with advisors.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
• Tax qualifications

• IT literate including knowledge of SAP or similar systems

• 5-8 years of experience working in tax compliance.

• Good personal skills with a hands-on team-oriented attitude.

• Commitment to teamwork through relationship-building, reliability and collaboration.

• Experience of working in an international organisation supporting cross-functional teams and multiple businesses.

• Experience of providing indirect analysis and recommendations to Director/VP level.

• Experience of managing relationships with tax authorities and tax advisors.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail within a rapidly changing environment.

• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.

• English essential, Turkish is a must.
