We are currently have an amazing opportunity for an innovative and creative supervising producer who can develop and launch a successful new format for Newshub Late at 8 pm to make it appointment viewing on Gusto and to build audience share.

Responsibilities
• Lead the development of a new format for Newshub Live at 8 pm in conjunction with the Director, TV News and Senior Director, News
• Prepare the launch of the new programme, with involvement in the development of graphic look and studio elements of the programme
• Lead the production of Newshub Live at 8 pm working towards clear strategic goals
• Ensure Newshub Live at 8 pm is securing and delivering compelling interviews with key newsmakers, working closely with the chaser producer
• Workshop question lines and interview strategy with presenters.
• Play a key role in the development of the Newshub Live at 8 pm growth strategy alongside the Director, TV News and Senior Director, News
• Articulate strategy to the Newshub Live at 8 pm production team and ensure it is being executed
• Intimately understand the audience profile for Newshub Live at 8 pm and ensure the programme is tailored to both serve and build the audience
• Be part of a daily debrief about audience ratings and be able to provide insight and critically assess decision making.
• An ability to understand opportunities to build audience across different Newshub platforms and programmes
• FIll in for Executive Producer or Supervising Producer of other Newshub bulletins as required
• Ensure all stories are editorially and legally sound, and BSA-compliant.
• Ensure Director of TV News, Senior Director of News and legal counsel are involved in decision making on legally fraught stories
• Be involved in story selection and assignment.
• Engage with the wider newsroom to identify stories other programmes may have that Newshub Live at 8pm could build on.
• Play a role in weekly planning meetings to discuss the rollout and treatment of different news stories
• Write and cut Openers, Playoffs and Top Stories - ensuring they are enticing and interesting.
• Build and work on the bulletin rundown through the day/evening
• Identify potential live opportunities, working within the resource constraints
• Chase and set up interviews, as required
• Think creatively about the delivery of the bulletin, continually striving for innovation and fresh ideas using all available production elements
• Identify new opportunities for Newshub Live at 8 pm to innovate
• Output bulletins in the control room
• Lead the production of breaking news specials.
• Sub reporter scripts, as required
• Give producers direction and constructive suggestions, as required
• Provide feedback to producers and reporters to help them develop their craft
• Identify and source potential story ideas
• Be an avid consumer of news
• Maintain an excellent relationship with key personnel both within the newsroom and in the broader Discovery ANZ team
• Cut and publish vision for promos/playoffs etc as required
• The Employee shall ensure they are familiar with the Employer's health and safety policies and procedures, and any modifications to those policies and procedures that may be introduced from time to time.

• Other duties as required.

Qualifications
• Tertiary level qualification or equivalent industry experience of 5+ years
• Strong organisational skills
• Excellent editorial nous
• Knowledge of New Zealand news and current affairs
• Excellent knowledge of laws governing defamation, libel and other applicable legal issues
• Excellent knowledge of Broadcasting Standards Authority rules and guidelines
• An enthusiastic and positive team player who loves news
• Willing to take direction and also to encourage and advise less experienced journalists
• A generous team member who appreciates individual and business successes
• Flexibility to work varied shifts and hours if required
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and perform effectively under pressure
