Overview

Newshub is a multi-platform, highly collaborative newsroom and our team is committed to creating and delivering great content and great journalism to our audiences. We believe in being the best in delivering news that matters to Kiwis each and every day.

We currently have an oportunity for an experienced Senior Producer to secure guests to appear on and assist in the production of Newshub Live at 8pm and Newshub Late, with a view to maximising audience share for the programmes.

Responsibilities
• Secure and set up interviews with the newsmakers of the day
• Generate original ideas for interview subjects
• Prepare research notes when required and work with producers and presenters to develop question lines that get the best out of our guests.
• Secure exclusive interviews
• Deliver compelling news on all platforms – primarily for TV and as required, for digital
• Be the primary chase producer for Newshub's evening bulletins
• Step up and fill in for producers of the 8pm or Late News bulletins when required
• Liaise with the national desk to ensure cameras are available to film interviews.
• Liaise with MCR/Studio team to ensure lines are booked for live or pre-recorded interviews.
• To edit pre-recorded interviews to correct duration.
• Assist the 8pm & Late producers with editorial priorities for the bulletin
• Assist the programme producer in directing and supporting journalists to deliver stories to a high standard, consistent with the Newshub brand
• Cut and publish vision via UX
• Produce bulletin promos and updates, as required.
• The Employee shall ensure they are familiar with the Employer's health and safety policies and procedures, and any modifications to those policies and procedures that may be introduced from time to time.
• Carry out your work safely and without endangering or causing harm to yourself, fellow staff members, contractors, customers, visitors, or the general public.
• Other duties as required.
• The Company may, after fair and reasonable consultation, change your duties, from time to time, for commercial reasons but not so as to substantially change the nature of the position.

Qualifications
• Tertiary level qualification or equivalent industry experience of 5+ years
• Excellent editorial nous
• Excellent contact book, including the ability to think creatively about guests who can progress a story
• Ability to set up guests and develop compelling question lines for live on-air television interviews.
• Knowledge of New Zealand news and current affairs
• An enthusiastic and positive team player who loves news
• Ability to set up guests in a breaking news environment
• Willing to take direction and also to encourage and advise less experienced journalists
• Continually seeks opportunities to improve programme content and delivery
• A generous team member who appreciates individual and business successes
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and perform effectively under pressure

• Excellent knowledge of laws governing defamation, libel and other applicable legal issues
