Overview

Are you motivated by handling business and legal affairs? Do you want to work in the media business and support across the Nordic? Then you might be the Legal Manager, we are looking for.

Discovery Nordic's Legal Department seeks an enthusiastic team player to support in negotiating all commercial and legal aspects of programme commission, co-production, format and talent agreements for Discovery's channels and platforms across the Nordic regions, as well as providing general legal support to the Nordics business as required. The workplace is located at Discovery Networks Denmark, Copenhagen.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated with strong business affairs and legal negotiating experience and a detailed knowledge of the media market and TV production business. Extensive contacts amongst programme producers and networks would be an advantage.

Your workday will be busy and exciting, as we are a small team in a dynamic company.

Your primary tasks will be:
• Negotiate commercial and legal terms relating to the commissioning, development, and co-production of programming for Discovery's channels and platforms across the Nordic regions within internal budget guidelines and channels' requirements
• Establish, maintain, and develop relationships with key content suppliers
• Provide market intelligence research and support for business initiatives as directed
• Provide on-going general business and legal advice to internal clients concerning production, broadcast clearance, compliance, copyright and other intellectual property and content-related issues
• Draft and negotiate programming agreements such as development, commission, co-production, format and licensing agreements and associated agreements such as independent contractor agreements, and participant agreements
• Liaise with network and third-party production companies to negotiate and complete such agreements.
• Troubleshoot various programming business and legal issues, including drafting responses to claim letters, drafting delay notification letters, termination agreements, assisting with pre-publication review and legal compliance content review, and liaising internally and externally as appropriate regarding high exposure rights clearance
• Updating the department's template agreements
• Revise and update Hive database and such other information tracking mechanisms in use within the company
• Provide general legal support to the Nordics business as required

About you and your background:
• Qualified law-degree from a Nordic country is required with experience in business and legal affairs
• Experience gained in a broadcast/media environment in private practice or in-house with exposure to production agreements, including knowledge of television production, acquisition transactions and other tv agreements.
• Extensive contacts with programme producers and broadcasters would be an advantage.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting and contract analysis skills and proven experience in resolution of complex rights issues.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear and effective communication at junior and senior level within and outside the company.
• Good organizational skills, decisive and follow through the decisions
• Ability to work under pressure and keep track of several tasks at a time as you go along
• Ability to function on an independent basis, with moderate supervision.
• Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework within which the tv business operates.
• Knowledge of television business, free to air, cable, pay and satellite TV industry and general entertainment industry and 'new media' developments. Working knowledge of union and guild issues helpful.
• Understanding of Nordic production practices would be beneficial.
• Excellent English skills Computer skills extremely valuable (including Office programs and Outlook, knowledge / experience setting up databases, tables, knowledge of redlining software).
