Job Description
The Detroit Tigers are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual for the role of Baseball Communications Manager. This position will support the Director of Baseball Communications in executing strategic communication initiatives and enhancing the team's narrative through effective storytelling and media relations. The Manager will play a key role in ensuring the department meets its objectives while maintaining strong relationships with media representatives and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is proactive, has a deep understanding of baseball, and possesses excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the development and execution of communication strategies that align with the team's objectives and brand messaging.
• Manage the production of essential baseball communications materials, including press releases, game notes, and media guides, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Collaborate with the Director and uniformed personnel to identify and pitch compelling story ideas that promote the team and its players.
• Serve as a liaison for day-to-day media inquiries, facilitating timely and accurate responses to enhance the team's public image.
• Coordinate media access for players, coaches, and executives, including scheduling interviews and managing media appearances.
• Support the execution of communication plans for key events, such as press conferences, free agent signings, and player trades.
• Monitor media coverage and report on trends, providing insights to inform communication strategies.
• Contribute to crisis communication efforts by identifying potential issues and assisting in the development of strategic responses.
• Travel with the team as needed, supporting media relations during road games and Spring Training.
• Assist in the credentialing process for media access to Comerica Park and other facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree with minimum of 4-6 years of experience in communications, sports management, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Solid understanding of media operations and best practices in public relations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of baseball, including its rules, statistics, and current trends.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, preferably within sports or high-profile organizations.
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) is a plus.
