As the Director, Corporate Communications you will assist the Chief Communications Officer in serving local, national and international media covering the Detroit Pistons by disseminating positive story lines and information regarding community relations activities, corporate sales and ticket sales activations, human interest stories regarding Pistons employees and organization capital projects while helping maintain a positive public image for the team and company.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Serve as liaison between local TV's, newspaper feature and business editors, community/feature/business beat writers and columnists and local and national NBA business writers and local/national trade media
• Serve as secondary media spokesperson for team and company – regarding corporate communications functions
• Maintain effective relationships with team broadcast partners, Fox Sports Detroit, Flagship Radio, ESPN, TNT for potential storytelling and feature coverage
• Manage PR duties – corporate press releases, fact sheet production, event advisories, media post-event follow-ups
• Assist in coordinating staff appearances, interviews and external events
• Create feature storylines on team community and business functions and programs, administrators for content across all external and Pistons internal media channels
• Maintain team historical archives and statistical information – regarding corporate partnerships and ticket sales year-to-year
• Prepare speaking points documents for executives regarding community events and corporate/business related speaking engagements and interviews
• Assist ticket sales and corporate partner departments on issues/appearances requiring Pistons players, coaches or staff
• Assist with Pistons Basketball media relations coverage as needed – game support
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, communications, public relations, marketing, and/or business
• 5-plus years of manager-level business/corporate/community relations public relations experience; experience on corporate business sports PR is a plus; along with established sports business-media relationships
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays, as needed
• Impeccable communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
• Vast traditional and social media knowledge
• Ability to multi-task and work in a faced-paced environment
• Must have ability to work under tight deadlines and to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong organizational and time management skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word
