Position: Systems Engineer
Location: Santa Monica, CA
*Pay Range: $31.00 - $48.00 USD hourly
Working as part of our facility's engineering group, the systems engineer will help deploy leading-edge computing infrastructure, perform systems management and maintenance duties, as well as provide support to artists and production personnel.
This is a unique opportunity for a technical professional with a strong desire to continually learn new skills and further cutting-edge technology projects hands-on. You'll be working with HPC technology and the most renowned creative crews in the industry in a fast-paced performance-driven environment.
MAIN DUTIES:
The Systems Engineer will deploy, manage and support high-performance computing environment: specialized workstations and servers, large storage systems, complex network infrastructures, and services -preferably in a large post-production or VFX environment. They will respond to production technical issues and inquiries. Taking ownership, control and continuously improving support services to maintain a high level of end user satisfaction.
Other duties include:
• Implementing root cause analysis to identify and correct system faults.
• Simultaneously manage multiple customer cases in a demanding environment, while resolving issues using company tools and internal knowledge base.
• Ability to create technical documentation.
• Must be available to cover SLA hotline: nights and weekends, on-call duty required on a rotating basis (Holidays included), overtime is expected.
• Analyze and tune systems for performance, throughput, resource utilization, high availability, and scalability.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will be experienced in the technology supported-related field and an understanding of video and audio standards. They will bring an ability to follow best practices, in house documentation and established procedures when they exist. They will bring an ability to to act independently and proficiently while in a high stress level environment. They will bring an ability to travel to/from customer facilities and end user locations for system deployments and configuration. The ideal candidate will also bring the following:
• Ability to act independently and proficiently while in a high stress level environment.
• Ability to evaluate system components, software, networking infrastructure and hardware peripherals for reliability, performance, scalability and security.
• Experience supporting operators using Autodesk Flame/Smoke, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve.
• Understanding of post-production workflows, notably digital intermediate processes.
• Experience with Theater, Edit and Color Bay support. Including monitor calibration.
• Knowledge of Networking: IPs/Subnetting/VLANs/Firewalls.
• Arista, Brocade, Palo Alto, FortiGate.
• Experience with Server/PC hardware: Custom building, parts replacement, upgrades.
• Supermicro, Dell, HP, Gigabyte.
• Operating systems: Linux (Centos/RHEL), Windows, MacOS.
• Must be well versed in Linux terminal and related tool sets.
• Storage devices: RAID, NAS, SAN (Fiber Channel).
• Previous experience in a post production environment is preferred.
