Job Description
CNN's Senior Editorial Planner plays a crucial role in overseeing the strategic planning and coordination of editorial content for CNN global news platforms. This position requires a highly organized leader with a strong editorial background, who can frame a story to highlight its significance, and the ability to develop the team. The Senior Editorial Planner will work closely with the director and leadership of global planning along with the editorial teams, reporters, and producers to ensure that news coverage is comprehensive, timely, and aligned with CNN's goals.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Lead coordination efforts between reporters, editors, producers, and stakeholders for daily and long-term news coverage.
• Ensure all planned content aligns with the organisation's editorial priorities and strategic goals.
• Collaborate with reporters and editors to refine story pitches and ensure comprehensive coverage.
• Quickly adapt plans and allocate resources for breaking news and unexpected events.
• Oversee the development of diverse and compelling story ideas and angles.
• Communicate across the organisation on all aspects of planning.
• Allocate resources, including reporters and photographers, to cover planned stories and events, and assist in building story budgets to maximise coverage and minimise costs.
• Facilitate communication between departments and teams for smooth workflow and collaboration.
• Help manage a team of journalists on the global planning team.
• Provide guidance and training to junior staff and interns on editorial planning processes and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field.
• Proven experience in editorial planning, journalism, or a related role.
• Keen news sense with curiosity and understanding of current events and trends.
• Outstanding organisational and project management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
