Your New Role…

We're currently looking for a Breaking News Writer to join the CNN Breaking/Live News Team and help cover history!

CNN's Breaking/Live News Team is across the biggest, most relevant, and engaging stories around the globe while focusing on creating a dynamic live experience for our readers. Our team of editors and writers jump on everything - from major weather disasters and announcements from world leaders to the Olympics, international elections, notable trials and covering the war in Ukraine. We follow the most significant stories in real time and across multiple time zones. This team has an insatiable appetite for breaking news and chasing fast-moving stories.

This is a weekend role with a Sunday through Thursday schedule.

Your Role Accountabilities…
• Writing real-time breaking news posts and monitoring multiple breaking events for CNN's live updates platform. No story is too big or too small.
• Pitching stories and collaborating with team members on daily news priorities and future live stories.
• Tracking constantly changing and emerging newsmakers and fast-moving storylines.
• Working quickly to familiarise yourself with the major players in any breaking story, and coordinating with newsgathering partners from around the globe.

Qualifications & Experience…
• Proven digital storytelling experience.
• Experience, comfortability, and a thirst for breaking news stories is a must. This is not a features-writing, investigative or beat reporting role. An ideal candidate not only can juggle stories on a wide array of topics but thrives in such an environment.
• Genuine interest in breaking news and a curiosity and passion for how it travels across the internet - from social to alerts.
• Sharp and fast writer with the ability to write a headline, and a sharp, precise paragraph that captures the essence of the story.
• Strong collaborator and communicator - we are a truly cross-functional team that works with nearly every desk and department teams and bureaus.
• Flexibility with your schedule, to account for major breaking news events, is vital to this role.
• Ability to work quickly under pressure and collaborate closely with others is essential.
