Job Description
CBS News and Stations is seeking a skilled and thorough Chyron Specialist to join our Chyron Hub for our CBS Owned and Operated station group across 17 markets! This position will work with a decentralized Group Creative team that works hand-in-hand with our design teams in each local market.

The Group Creative team brings strategy and guidance to our entire group, delivering best-in-class creative and design to be implemented within each local market. Both nimble and innovative, the Group Creative team sets the course towards our organization's North Star-to make our community a better place to live!

As a Chyron Specialist, you will report to the VP, Group Design Director and be part of a Chyron Team where your primary responsibility will be to create graphics packages and templates that can be used by local stations to enhance their on-air presentations. You will work closely with station teams to understand their needs, develop visually compelling graphics and templates, and provide ongoing support to ensure the smooth implementation of graphics packages across multiple markets.

Responsibilities:
• Graphics Package Development: Collaborate with local stations to understand their specific requirements and design visually engaging graphics packages and templates that align with their brand guidelines and overall aesthetic.
• Template Creation: Build and customize Chyron templates for various types of graphics, including lower-thirds, full-screen graphics, information displays, and transitions, ensuring ease of use and flexibility for local station teams.
• Brand Consistency: Ensure that graphics packages maintain consistency with the station group's overall brand identity while allowing for customization to reflect each station's individual branding.
• Graphics Production: Use Chyron software (e.g., ChyronHego Prime, Camio, Chyron Hub) to produce high-quality on-air graphics, including text, images, animations, and data-driven elements.
• Project Management: Lead development, distribution and execution of both group-wide (i.e. election, sports) or individual station packages.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support to local station teams, addressing any issues or challenges that arise during the implementation and usage of graphics packages. Troubleshoot and resolve Chyron-related problems efficiently.
• Mentorship and Training: Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for local station teams on the proper use of graphics packages and templates. Create documentation and guidelines for efficient workflows and standard processes.
• Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks to ensure graphics packages meet established standards for accuracy, consistency, and visual appeal. Provide feedback and guidance to local stations for improvement when necessary.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with other Chyron Specialists within the decentralized group to share knowledge, resources, and standard processes. Curate a collaborative environment and contribute to the continuous improvement of graphics workflows.
• Stay Current with Technology: Keep up-to-date with the latest Chyron software updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies related to graphics production and implement innovative techniques to enhance on-air graphics.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Broadcast Journalism, or a related field. Relevant /prior work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proven experience as a Chyron Specialist, Graphics Operator, or in a similar role within the broadcast industry. 5 – 10 years experience.
• Proficiency in Chyron graphics software (e.g., ChyronHego Prime, Camio). Other related software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and 3D modeling software (Cinema 4D) is a bonus.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating visually appealing on-air graphics, lower-thirds, and full-screen graphics.
• Knowledge of typography, color theory, visual composition, and design principles as they relate to broadcast graphics.
• Excellent technical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve Chyron-related issues effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with local station teams and provide support remotely.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work within tight deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Passion for broadcast graphics, staying updated on industry trends, and seeking continuous improvement opportunities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $75,000.00 - 95,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
