CBS News and Stations is looking for a Research Director to join the KYW-TV team in Philadelphia and the KDKA team in Pittsburgh to manage research workflow!
The Research Director will demonstrate our vast research assets to position our linear, digital, and streaming properties and help drive revenue and audience growth across all platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE RESEARCH DIRECTOR ARE:
• Provide tracking and trending of linear, digital, and OTT cross platform viewership for sales, news, and marketing.
• Regularly develop sales and marketing collateral that includes but is not limited to; ratings one sheet; audience trend positioning pieces; category overviews and spending analysis; market overviews; and total audience analysis that positions combination of linear, digital, and streaming.
• Create market presentations for key sports sponsorships and tentpole events. Apply relevant qualitative and quantitate research assets to position each opportunity from both an audience and a marketing perspective.
• Work with sales and sales management on ad-hoc new business pitches and client presentations. Infuse presentations with linear and digital research that will help our teams close the sale.
• Serve as station expert in use of third-party research products such as NSI, COMSCORE, STRATA, WRAP, Scarborough, Media Monitors, and Polk. Manage contracts and relationships with key vendors.
• Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual competitive spending and market share reports
• Act as point person for annual Marshall Marketing survey. Work with sales management and vendor to build annual survey questions and once survey is complete, work with team to help interpret the data and use as part of sales conversations and presentations.
• Maintain programming in STRATA so that rate cards and avail system is constantly up to date.
• Responsible for daily overnights (preliminary and finals). Responsible for variance reports and sending sports time and program changes to Nielsen.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a detailed understanding of the methodology, depth and scope of Nielsen, Nielsen NLTV, Comscore, MRI, Wrap Overnights and Wrap Sweeps, SQAD, Media Monitors, and Scarborough (Prime Lingo) syndicated media research data.
• Local Television Station research experience to drive audience growth in two competitive markets.
• Ability to interpret both linear and digital audience data and develop total audience story when possible.
• Ability to distill findings and publish results using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Able to present effectively to small and large groups of industry peers and clients.
• Use PC and Web based software to compile and analyze consumer research, retail expenditures, and product/lifestyle information in key retail categories.
• Translate research findings into concise and meaningful presentations, innovative tools and creative leave-behind pieces.
• Understand and interpret quantitative research from Nielsen & Comscore rating services and manage the analyzing and distribution of key findings to sales staff.
• Able to work with cross-functional teams to identify content strategies and opportunities to grow audiences.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• College Degree in Marketing or Advertising or equivalent work experience.
• Experience in broadcast TV or cable.
• Highly proficient with a PC using Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent writing, math and oral communication skills are essential.
• Ability to thrive in fast paced environment with a positive attitude.
• Ability to handle various projects at a time, with superior time-management skills.
