BROADCAST ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

WWJ-TV CBS News Detroit and WKBD-TV Detroit50, the CBS News and Stations owned & operated duopoly in Detroit, are searching for a highly qualified standout colleague for the position of Broadcast Engineering Technician. In this role, the Broadcast Technician will be responsible for equipment operation to support the CBS News Detroit stream and broadcast.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Must have strong technical capability and operate various studio, news, and control room equipment such as studio cameras, wireless mic/IFB systems, teleprompter, audio console, live production automation systems, and bonded cell, microwave, and satellite receive systems.
• Make quick changes, switching shots, camera angles, and graphics.
• Monitor video broadcasting equipment and resolve technical issues.
• Ensure that all euipment is prepared for broadcast.
• Serve as a resource for hands-on response to broadcast hub technical issues, live streaming, and certain building system functions.
• Facilitate technical operations for breaking news and weather cut-ins; assist News.
• Consult and communicate with engineering management and other specialists on technical issues as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a master control or studio production technical director.
• Experience with live production systems such as Sony ELC.
• Experience with Newsroom management systems such as iNews.
• Experience with video production and content management systems such as Grass Valley Stratus.
• Proven track record of effectively solving issues under pressure on technical systems critical to the broadcast and live streaming plant.
• Knowledge of computer networking, broadcast automation, and workflow systems.
• Experience working with microwave, satellite, and bonded cell receive systems and transmission vehicles.
• Attention to detail and strong drafting, negotiation, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
• Demonstrated experience with editing content using non-linear editing systems, audio operation, and camera or graphics experience a plus.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and/or step stools to maintain equipment.
• Solid grasp of RF fundamentals: 2-way, cellular, point-to-point microwave, and wireless networking systems.
• Proficient in handling test equipment: spectrum analyzers, Bitstream analyzers, oscilloscopes, and digital multi-meters.
• Cable fabrication and termination experience.
• Understanding of SD/HD digital video, signal routing, and processing equipment.
• Experience with satellite downlinks and configuring digital IRDs.
• Understanding of the major digital video file formats, their chief characteristics, common format containers, and metadata usage.
• Proficient understanding and the ability to read wiring diagrams, flowcharts, and schematics.
• Experience with Distributed Systems (both in system design and data storage).
• A college diploma or university degree in a related technology or communications field is preferred.
