Job Description

CBS Texas (KTVT-TV), the CBS Owned & Operated station serving Dallas-Fort Worth, is seeking a phenomenal, highly competitive Assignment Editor who thrives on breaking news and getting the story not only first, but also right! The ideal candidate is competitive, collaborative, problem-solving, calm under pressure, flexible and has a can do attitude!

Responsibilities:
• Aggressively pursue relevant breaking news.
• Assign and manage multiple news crews, based on individual assessment of the best use of time and resources.
• Monitor news scanners and social media sites from all sources including, but not limited to, law enforcement, fire agencies, courts, news websites, Twitter and Facebook.
• Generate and develop enterprise story ideas; attend and contribute to editorial meetings.
• Develop relationships and contacts in the community and cultivate those contacts for news stories; communicate with Public Information Officers and Public Relations contacts in order to solicit and obtain information pertaining to newsgathering, planning and follow-up of news stories.
• Maintain and manage ongoing data for high-profile stories and collaborate with Producers and Reporters to develop these stories.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time based upon events of the day.

Qualifications:
• 2-5 years of experience preferred
• Proven knowledge of television broadcasting and familiarity with DFW area is a plus
• Strong news judgment, organizational and planning skills.
• Proven verbal and written communication skills.
• Must respond quickly, calmly and professionally to deadlines, changing circumstances and breaking news; must be able to quickly prioritize and make decisions requiring independent judgment.
• Shift: Overnight 11:00 PM-7:00AM
