Job Description
CBS News is seeking an expert and hardworking Social Media AP with a passion for true crime to join our ''48 Hours'' team and help us optimize each episode for publishing on social platforms!
This role will require a candidate with strong editorial judgment and enough social media expertise to recommend which clips from each episode are most likely to resonate online – and the best treatment per platform. The Associate Producer will need to produce and edit videos that will engage audiences on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube – using in-platform tools and features to render the text and graphics more authentic to the audiences we are trying to reach. It is essential to have an eye for the most shareable nugget (quote, moment etc.) from larger news events and episodes of ''48 Hours'' which can be broken out as separate stories and social posts; and the ability to produce that story in either text or video form, as the situation dictates.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in the standard processes of social media sites, as proven by their active social media profiles. They will be able to write share language for captions and titles that is simultaneously concise and shareable, yet fully in context and in line with the CBS News and ''48 Hours'' brands. They must be capable of multitasking and prioritizing, and be willing to work newsroom hours, which will include nights, weekends and holidays.
Candidate qualifications:
• 1 to 3 years of social media or newsroom experience
• Interest and proficiency in true crime and current events
• Deep familiarity with social media platforms, audiences and best practices
• Strongly skilled in writing about a variety of topics in a strong, yet unbiased way
• Sharp producing and editing skills, as this position will be responsible for the production of multiple original social packages every day
• Ability to quickly and accurately subtitle video for social, using both editing tools, like Adobe Premiere, and the text tools within TikTok and Instagram
• Ability to work well with others under tight deadlines, and be fast and adaptable when news breaks
• Degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications or related
