Job Description

CBS News is seeking a Producer with strong organizational skills and editorial instincts to join the Coverage Team on its new Super Desk! The Coverage Team will help manage how we cover stories across multiple platforms, including network broadcasts, CBS 24/7 streaming shows, Newspath, and Radio.

The Producer will be responsible for assigning crews for daily hits across platforms. The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of what it takes to produce live and taped segments, plus understand the logistics of scheduling hits and balancing newsgathering time. This is not just a position about logistics. Coverage Team members should have the editorial instincts to know which segments are likely to be covered every single day, so we have the right people in the right places for coverage. The Producer will also need to think ahead, so we have material like looklives, walk-and-talks, and other ''in the moment'' elements coming in from our teams in the field to help our platforms stay up to date with the latest information. A successful candidate is someone quick on their feet, highly organized, a pro at multi-tasking, and a self-starter with a team player mentality. The Producer should have a good understanding of newsgathering steps, including element gathering, video clearing, transmission, scheduling, travel booking, and safety protocols.

Applicants must be willing to work various shifts including overnights and weekends as needed.

Required Skills and Experience
• At least three years local and/or network TV or cable news experience
• Strong editorial judgement
• Highly developed relationship building skills
• Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly-changing environment
• A focus on multi-media content
• Understanding of TV newsgathering and transmission technology

Desired Skills and Experience
• Show producer or assignment desk experience
• Knowledge of regional television markets and station relationships
• Familiarity with Wolftech

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $87,000.00 - 110,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
