News Writer, CBS Mornings

Job Description

CBS Mornings is seeking a top-tier news writer who also has experience with entertainment or comedy writing to join our editorial team!

Responsibilities:
• Writes compelling, succinct, and clear scripts under tight deadlines while also identifying creative ways to add flair to break through the typical network news-style writing
• Exhibits sound news judgement and writing according to CBS News policies, editorial standards
• Learns the unique voices of the CBS Mornings anchors and tailors the writing to specific styles and humor
• Researches and evaluates news stories and verifies accuracy of material and information from sources
• Willing to take the lead to help drive editorial direction for segments, collaborating with Senior Producers on the tone and creative focus.

Qualifications:
• At least four years of television news writing experience and some experience writing in the comedy, sketch or entertainment world
• Experience in ENPS or equivalent news computer system
• Ability to write sharp, active, and compelling news reports, intros/tags, and teases from raw materials including: wire copy, video, reporter notes
• Familiarity with news feed services such as CBS Newspath
• Ability to respond rapidly and efficiently to tight deadlines and breaking news

This position is a full-time, in-office position and will require working at very early hours of the day.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $47,892.00 - 101,764.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
