Job Description
CBSNews.com is hiring a news editor to cover breaking news and write stories on a wide range of topics, including politics, health, crime, finance, culture and entertainment! The ideal candidate has strong news judgment and can write and edit clear, accurate copy and craft compelling headlines on deadline in a fast-paced environment. Scrupulous attention to detail, a cool head under pressure, and excellent communication skills are essential.
The hours for this role are Saturday-Wednesday, 2p-10p ET, and requires two days a week in the NYC office. You will work some holidays and may be required to shift your schedule as news breaks.
Your day-to-day:
• Coordinate, produce and update web coverage of news stories, gathering the latest information from a variety of sources, always being mindful of CBS News standards.
• React quickly to breaking news, writing and publishing articles and running live blogs.
• Edit captions and publish videos from CBS News network and streaming coverage, and embed live streams in written articles on developing stories.
• Manage the CBSNews.com homepage.
• Work across CBS News and Stations teams to publish the best of CBS News to our website.
• Track content performance via analytics tools to help inform your decision-making.
• Optimize all stories for search.
• Edit copy across platforms, including video metadata and push alerts.
• Clip and publish videos as needed.
• Send app alerts and breaking news emails.
Qualifications:
• You have 2+ years of experience in a digital breaking news environment and a proven ability to react quickly as news develops
• You are a skilled writer who can produce quality copy on deadline
• You have a knack for framing content in an engaging way for a digital audience
• You're deeply familiar with analytics platforms like Google Analytics, Omniture, Chartbeat and Parse.ly
• You thrive in a collaborative team environment
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $74,400.00 - 90,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
