Job Description
The High-Risk Advisor at CBS News plays a meaningful role in ensuring the safety and security of personnel deployed to high-risk assignments globally. This position involves reporting to the Head of the High Risk Team and working with management to assess safety issues, deploying to high-risk locations providing security support, developing global security policies, coordinating training, and relationship management with international/local agencies. The role requires strong communication, analytical skills, physical fitness, and applicable medical qualifications, along with experience in media team environments and a strong military background.

Key Responsibilities:
• Working with the Team Head, CBS News management and field teams to evaluate safety issues and assess risks of assignment locations.
• Deploy to high-risk assignments to provide security support when assigned.
• Assist the Head of High Risk when required in developing global security policies and procedures.
• Develop and Support international travel security programs and awareness training for CBS News travellers.
• Writing clear and informed reports to mitigate risk analysing a range of available intelligence and local contacts to ensure assessments are up to date and filed for future reference.
• Provide intelligence assessments on global risks and threats, analysing security data.
• Coordinate required training for personnel deployed to high-risk areas and maintain training records.
• Lead all aspects of and visit medical and security training courses to ensure importance.
• Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and medical kits and distribute accordingly.
• Coordinate security support from vetted international vendors.
• Manage relationships with domestic and international law enforcement agencies.
• Deliver Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) training and briefings when required.
• Assist in security planning for risk events or high-profile deployments.
• Assist with logistics for assignments.
• Maintain and update team responsibilities, including medical development and SOPs.
• Maintain High Risk Team SOP's
• Check crash Bergen contents annually.
• Annually update and replace outdated medical equipment and drugs.
• Maintain excellent physical condition to operate efficiently in demanding environments.
• Able to live in uncomfortable and restricted conditions for prolonged periods.
• Deploy at short notice for extended periods.
• Continue working remotely or in bureau as required when not on assignment or leave to support the London team. Ideally, visit the London Bureau weekly to interact with management and producers.
• Attend security meetings and intelligence forums.
• Possess strong people skills to address high-profile groups and CBS Personnel on security topics.
• Provide instruction and training as required, both on deployment and in the UK.
• Exercise good judgement in all situations.
• Refresh medical qualifications annually.
• If required, advise on supplementing Freelance Security Advisers to meet CBS standards.
• Communicate with network contacts to collect ongoing concerns for briefing updates.
• Willing to support CBS during VIP visits from overseas considered low risk but maintaining a shared approach.

Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of continual experience working within media teams.
• Strong military background.
• Applicable medical qualifications, minimum FREC 3/MIRA or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Physical fitness to withstand demanding conditions.
• Based in the UK, with the ability to deploy at short notice from major airports and work remotely.
• Strong interpersonal and decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency in security protocols and procedures.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Dedication to upholding CBS News standards and values.
• Willing to go beyond job description for CBS mission success.
• Ability to maintain morale in difficult and stressful situations through positive work ethic and language.
