The CBS News National Desk weekend overnight Associate Producer responsible for:
Managing all domestic newsgathering for the network and selecting top stories to share companywide on the weekend overnight hours. This includes any breaking news, worthy of national attention in all 50 states and US territories.
During the week, this assignment editor will work an early morning shift assisting the main editor with whatever is needed leading up to the CBS This Morning broadcast. During this shift there are opportunities to work on targeted pitches in addition to assisting with fact checking, reporting and any requests made by CBS This Morning which can range from purchasing video for broadcast to compiling a fact sheet of major weather affecting a specific state.
Confirm details of breaking news stories and deploying a team when necessary. Candidates should be prepared to conduct their own reporting to confirm details by contacting police/fire departments, emergency services and other agencies via email, cold calls or on social media.
Qualifications:
• Familiar with newsgathering and up to date on current events. Sharp news judgment and the ability to comb through local and national newspapers in addition to CBS News local affiliates across the country a plus.
• An excellent eye for capturing and clearing newsworthy and/or shocking video on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and other media accounts.
• Candidates should also have strong writing skills, as they will compile the ''What's Happening'' planning note for Saturday and Sunday which inform the news coverage for the day. The shows serviced on weekends include Saturday Morning, Sunday Morning and CBS Weekend News.
• Awareness of the ins and outs of a news story. Must know the latest information of top news stories, especially those flagged in the ''What's Happening'' note.
• Ability to keep track of stories covered by all news shows in order to continue monitoring specific threads with the most updated information.
• Must be willing to work weekends and overnights as needed.
