Job Description

Position Overview:

The Director of Technology and System Administration will play an instrumental role at Blumhouse both as a manager of the IT function and a key technology partner across our divisions, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.

The areas of specific oversight include all aspects of technology design, strategy, procurement and support, as well as project execution, network security, and day to day technology operations of the company. We are looking for an expert with a strong technical background in systems administration, network administration, and mass storage for this operations role.

As a key technology partner to our post-production division, you will be responsible for production systems and support administration of predominantly MacOS and Linux systems for editorial, color grading, visual effects and general post production, liaising with operational staff to develop workflow enhancements and features. The ideal candidate will possess a wide variety of technical skills and is wired to succeed in a growing studio environment.

Across all our other divisions, you will be responsible for managing our core IT business systems and corporate networks in a primarily MacOS-environment. This will entail being a trusted advisor to senior leadership in the planning, budgeting, procurement, and deployment of software and hardware solutions across the company, ensuring core systems uptime, managing the company's managed services providers to provide level 1 ticket communications and other technology vendors, and ensuring the company deploys best practices in network and content security across its environments. In addition to your management responsibilities, you will be responsible for supporting the technology needs of the most senior executives of the company.

Required Skills:
• Understanding of post-production workflows and practices
• Experience managing OS X, Linux and Windows servers, workstations, and laptops
• Experience with networking and IP services (TCP/IP, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing, VPN, etc.) within a Cisco Meraki networking environment.
• Storage concepts (NAS, SAN, DAS) - Filesystems and sharing protocols - Experience designing, implementing and supporting a distributed/clustered file systems
• Firewall concepts / policies (Meraki/Fortinet/PAN)
• Experience supporting industry creative software (Avid Media Composer/Resolve/Adobe Creative Suite)
• Centralized device management platforms (JAMF/Kandji/Cisco)
• Previous experience with Media and entertainment security assessments (Studio driven audits/TPN/MPA)
• Highly organized, able to adapt and prioritize based on immediate business needs, and excellent analytical/problem solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams

• Experience configuring and managing accelerated transfer solutions (Aspera/Signiant)
• Previous configuration management experience (Ansible / Puppet)
• Experience in the Media and Entertainment industry
• Image and video formats
• Multi-site replication
• Scripting in computer languages, such as Python and Bash
• Knowledge of video file transcoding
• Experience troubleshooting performance bottlenecks on CentOS and Ubuntu Linux using GUI and CLI tools
• A degree in Computer Science/Information Systems/Engineering or relevant experience
• Exposure to project management
• In-depth knowledge of NFS, SMB, automounting, and tuning

Responsibilities:
• Primary technical responsibility for a variety of servers, network devices, mass storage devices, workstations, and end-user laptops.
• Troubleshoot server, network, storage, and desktop issues with the production departments to resolve issues
• Administer and manage Cisco-based WAN, LAN, WiFi and VPN connectivity across multiple sites
• Administer and manage Linux-based (CentOS & Rocky) systems.
• Administer and manage cloud based SaaS applications, including O365/Zoom
• Administer and manage public cloud hosted services, including Azure AD
• Help manage in-house storage (Avid Nexis/Isis and OpenDrives), ensuring high availability, performance, backup, and capacity
• Work closely with other teams to plan and implement internal and customer-facing systems
• Maintain and generate policy documentation, network maps, and systems inventory
• Occasionally work off hours for planned maintenance and emergencies as needed
• Maintain and develop excellent team communication and communication channels throughout the organization
• Manage a technology budget and work with Finance and the CFO to identify areas of investment and cost savings.
• Develop and manage all phases of IT projects to advance enterprise objectives
• Design and implement new applications and systems
• Oversee IT procurement, vendor proposals and contract management
• Work with the organization including senior management to understand business requirements.
