Who You Are
You are an experienced DMP able to create stunning, photorealistic environments that seamlessly blend into live-action footage. Using a combination of 2D and 3D tools, you can paint, model, and project imagery to craft dynamic shots that match the artistic vision and technical demands of each production. You are an expert with Photoshop, Maya, and Nuke, able to build layered compositions that incorporate camera animation, projection techniques, lighting passes, and atmospheric effects.
What You'll Do
• Craft photorealistic digital paintings and environment elements that align with the project's visual style; using a blend of 2D and 3D tools including camera setup, projection modeling, animation, and light passes
• Source/curate high-quality photographic reference materials to support environment design and authenticity
• Blend photographic textures, painted elements, and 3D assets to envision, create, and design immersive digital environments using techniques like camera animation, projection mapping, and advanced layering
• Seamlessly integrate your work into final shots, maintaining a consistent sense of lighting, depth, perspective, and color throughout the composition
• Fuse traditional painting techniques with technical expertise in photography, modeling, and digital design to develop both 2D and 3D matte elements
• Collaborate closely with VFX Supervisors to identify efficient workflows and ensure every plate aligns with creative concepts and production timelines
What You Bring
• 5+ years of experience as a Digital Matte Painter for live action episodic and/or feature films
• Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Maya and Nuke (required)
• Advanced knowledge of matte-painting techniques and/or technical experience in photography/lighting with an emphasis on color and composition
• Must be able to multitask, be self-motivated, proactive, and manage all aspects on an environment and sequence
• Responsive to guidance and review notes from creative and technical leadership, and able to apply feedback to achieve the required look
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• A thorough understanding of television/ episodic VFX production pipelines (and feature film a plus).
• Knowledge VFX Software 2D/3D packages is considered an asset
About This Role
This is a remote based role. Project and staff positions available with extended health benefits and opportunity to participate in RRSP programs. The posted pay range is aligned with what we believe is fair pay at the time of posting this role. An applicant's relevant education, experience, skills and qualifications, location and currency may all be considered when deciding pay position within the range.
