Overview

WBBM is looking for an experienced producer to help lead our morning newscasts. The Morning Editor must be familiar with broadcast-style and possess excellent news judgment. A deep understanding of current events and the Chicago area is imperative. Editors will be tasked with identifying compelling news and potential stories that resonate with listeners from diverse backgrounds. The ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment is essential.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:--Create hourly line-ups on deadline for the morning news program--Coordinate assignments with anchors, reporters, and writers--Direct assistant producers to acquire new sound, audio, and interviews--Monitor a variety of sources for updates, including social media, news releases, wire services, etc.--Check copy and scripts for accuracy and readability--Consciously balance the voices and perspectives featured on-air to avoid any sense of bias
--Write accurate and concise news stories in broadcast-style
--Various other duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:--Ability to work early hours - the morning editor shift starts at 2 a.m.--Minimum one year experience in news writing/editing, interviewing or reporting--Knowledge of and ability to use social media platforms
--Ability to both take direction from news managers and give clear direction to newsroom teammates
--Have a working knowledge of legal guidelines including libel and slander laws and FCC rules
--Must be computer literate
--Audio editing skills preferred
--Strong journalistic ethics
--Relevant college degree
