At Amazon Games, our ambition is to create bold new experiences that foster community in and around our games. Our team of game industry veterans is developing and publishing live service AAA multiplayer games and developing original IPs, including New World: Aeternum and an upcoming title based on The Lord of the Rings, with our studios and teams in Seattle, Orange County, San Diego, Montreal, and Bucharest. Amazon Games also publishes best-in-class games working closely with our partners, leading with Lost Ark from Smilegate RPG, Throne and Liberty from NCSOFT, as well as the next major entry in the Tomb Raider series from Crystal Dynamics.
As an Art Director, you take the reins of our art team and collaborate and support the production of our ambitious video game. In this role, you lead a dynamic team of specialist art directors and work closely with development teams to ensure a consistent and compelling artistic vision as defined by Amazon Games leadership throughout the creative process. In addition, you build and contribute to art communities across Amazon Games.
Key job responsibilities
- Help support the overall artistic vision of the content produced for the game based on the directions set by Amazon Games leadership, ensuring it aligns with the overall creative direction of the project.
- Supervise and mentor a team of talented artists, including specialist art directors, to ensure artistic quality and alignment with project objectives
- Collaborate with design, development, and storytelling teams to seamlessly integrate art elements into the game
- Collaborate and contribute ideas to the design and development of key visual elements, including characters, environments, animations and special effects
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that the artistic vision defined by Amazon Games Leadership is understood and respected at all levels
- Oversee the art creation process, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met while maintaining high quality standards
- Identify and resolve artistic and creative issues throughout development, proposing innovative and pragmatic solutions
- Stay on top of artistic and technological trends in the video game industry and ensure the team stays at the forefront of artistic innovation.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in an art direction role in the video game industry;
- Proficiency with standard software and art tools, as well as a thorough understanding of design principles and artistic techniques;
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a creative team, fostering a collaborative and stimulating work environment;
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to present and defend artistic concepts convincingly;
- Exceptional creativity, with a portfolio demonstrating a variety of artistic styles and an ability to innovate within project constraints;
- Degree in art, design, animation or a related field, or equivalent field experience;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Unreal game engine
- Strong communication skills, able to explain conceptual ideas in an accessible and understandable manner
