Publicity Director - 20/20 & ABC Audio (NABET)

The Publicity Director is responsible for media relations for ''20/20,'' ''What Would You Do?'' and ''ABC Audio,'' ''ABC Radio'' and assisting in the programs' long-term communications strategy. The position reports to the VP of Communications.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for ''20/20'' and ''What Would You Do?'':
• Create publicity strategy to raise awareness about the programs and drive viewership.
• Conceive and proactively pitch stories and secure placement in print, wire, broadcast, and digital media about the programs, anchors and correspondents.
• Generate coverage of reporting, investigations and interviews.
• Write press releases and other promotional materials to publicize the programs' upcoming broadcasts.
• Publicize ratings successes to media.
• Handle interview and internal requests for anchors, correspondents and the programs' executives.
• Generating and maintaining media lists.
• Maintain a strong working rapport with talent.
• Liaise with areas of ABC News to promote the broadcast, including affiliate relations (ABC NewsOne and ABC stations), ABC News Digital, ABC News Radio and ABC New Digital.
• Work closely with the show's social media team to create campaigns around large events, series and initiatives.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts.
• Keep senior management informed of publicity activities and challenges.

Responsibilities for ABC Audio and ABC Radio:
• Create publicity strategy to raise awareness about the platforms, podcast slate and programming to drive audience growth.
• Conceive and proactively pitch stories and secure placement in print, wire and digital media about news coverage, podcasts, anchors, and correspondents.
• Write press releases and other promotional materials to publicize programs, podcasts and business announcements.
• Generate print, wire and digital coverage of interviews, podcast episodes and breaking news coverage.
• Handle interview requests for anchors, correspondents and executives.
• Maintain a strong working rapport with talent.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts.
• Keep senior management informed of publicity activities and challenges.

Additional Responsibilities
• Publicize additional special projects, specials, programs and content
• Plan and staff events, speaking engagements, panels and more.

Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications or related field
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple campaigns at any given time
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekend days
• Some travel outside of the New York area will be required
• Strong writing and presentation skills
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Strong team player
• Strong work ethic and ability to secure earned media.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
• Ability and drive to find creative ways to promote ABC News, programs and talent

Preferred Qualifications:
• Two or more years of experience in public relations, corporate communications or related field
• Experience working in television or the media industry
• Strong understanding of social media integrations; experience running successful social media campaign preferred

Required Education
• BA or BS from a four year accredited college or university
