Job Description
We are seeking a reporter/writer based in London to join the ABC News Digital team to write breaking news and general assignment stories that will be published on ABCNews.com.

Do you have proven experience writing breaking news for digital platforms with speed and accuracy. Experience with writing/maintaining live blogs is also a plus. We are looking for a reporter who has a clear sense of how to approach a story holistically – weaving together information from the field, their own reporting, videos, photos and social embeds to create stories that are sharp, informative and highly visual.

The role is based at the ABC News offices in Hammersmith, London, with team members currently working a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote days. The hours are generally 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time (2 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET), Sunday through Thursday, though the hours may shift occasionally depending on coverage needs.

The role and responsibilities
• Write breaking news stories in conjunction with reporting from our newsgathering desk with speed and accuracy.
• Write and maintain live blogs, both for coverage of long-term news, such as regional conflicts overseas, or events with limited time spans, such as a congressional hearing or active shooter situation.
• Work with our Audience Development team to identify and write trending stories
• Pitch and execute general assignment/enterprise stories when time allows
• Identify fresh, engaging story ideas, angles and sources

The experience we require from you
• Proven news writing experience, preferably breaking news writing
• Proven ability to write clean copy on a deadline and pivot between stories
• Experience with web publishing, SEO and AP style
• Track record of collaborating with reporters and editors of all experience levels in a fast-paced newsroom
• Beneficial - experience writing for a major news organisation with a US readership base

The Perks
• 25 days annual leave
• Private medical insurance & dental care
• Free Park Entry: You will have the opportunity to enter any of our parks with your family and friends for free
• Disney Discounts: you are entitled to discounts on designated Disney products, resort F&B and ticketing
• Disney+ Subscription
• Excellent parental and guardian leave
• Employee Resource Groups – WOMEN @ Disney, Disney DIVERSITY, Disney PRIDE, our new disability & neurodiversity focused group - ENABLED, and our Mental Health & Wellbeing Group, TRUST.

The Walt Disney Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We strive to be a diverse workforce that is representative of our audiences, and where all can thrive and belong. The base pay offered for this role will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
