Intern, Documentary Film Program (Producers Track)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Intern, Documentary Film Program (DFP) Producers Track is charged with providing administrative support for the DFP Labs and Artist Support team (includes the Doc Producers Track programs). This internship runs from Monday, December 4, 2023 through Friday, June 28, 2024. This role will work an average of 16 hours per week remotely and must be able to commit to working at least two days per week Monday through Friday on pacific time zone hours (10:00 AM - 6:00 PM PT).

Working closely under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Producing & Artist Support, the Intern, Documentary Film Program supports Sundance Institute’s commitment to identifying and supporting the next generation of independent documentary storytellers.

This internship will focus on:
• Providing administrative and programmatic support to the Documentary Film Program Artist Support team with the submission review, selection, and onboarding process for Documentary Producers Track.
• Gaining insight into the independent documentary landscape, including the funding mechanisms and production considerations for documentary features.
• Sharpening curatorial skills by reviewing Lab submission materials and supporting internal and external correspondence.
• Building a working knowledge of artist support databases, both in structure and administration.

Through this internship, the participant will…
• Conduct and present research on trends and best practices within the Documentary field.
• Draft emails and correspondence for submission responses and general email inquiries.
• Assist in the submission process and feedback process for the Documentary Producers Track by writing feedback summaries on assigned projects and presenting them during team meetings.
• Serve as a contributing member of the team, collaborating with other team members to gain hands-on experience across Documentary Film Program functions.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Assisting the Producer Lab Manager in the screener tracking and review process, coordinating two rounds of external evaluators and a finalist round including the submission review process for the Documentary Producers Lab.
• Maintaining a system to track, collate, and disseminate onboarding materials for Producers Lab and Producers Summit (participant bio and project information) for Lab attendees.
• Supporting the Labs and Artist Support team’s external communications with Lab applicants, including preparing decline letters for all Labs.
• Supporting management of the Producers Track email account.
• Providing administrative support for preparation and execution of Documentary Producers Track.
• Supporting the Labs and Artist Support team updating applicant records and assisting with data entry tasks in the DFP supported artists database (AirTable).

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of Google products and data entry programs (ie. AirTable).
• Strong interest in documentary film, arts administration, or a nonprofit career.
• Ability to prioritize, and ask for guidance when priorities are not clear.
• Strong communication skills.
