News Intern - Summer 2025 (The National Weather Desk)

As a paid intern in our news department, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned journalists and meteorologists and gain hands-on experience in the exciting world of The National Weather Desk.

Internship Overview:

Are you a weather enthusiast with a passion for storytelling and a keen interest in staying up-to-date with current events? If so, we want you on our team at TNWD! As a National Weather Desk Intern, you will have the chance to contribute to the creation of compelling digital and social content, assist in research, work with certified meteorologists and witness the behind-the-scenes workings of a newsroom.

Responsibilities:
• No day is the same. If you excel in an active, fast-moving environment and have the drive to learn the many different areas of News production, this position is perfect for you
• You will work with meteorologists and producers, with a primary focus on identifying and producing compelling digital weather content
• You will receive training on various topics including how to produce a weather segment, how to research and pitch a great story, how to produce a weathercast for broadcast television, and more

Qualifications:
• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or be considered a recent graduate
• Must be at least in your sophomore year of an accredited college/university
• Education focus on meteorology or similar field is preferred
• Must be a US citizen or eligible to work in the US
• Willing to work approximately 15 hours a week for 10 weeks, beginning in June 2025 or sooner **There may be a variety in hours due to our news programming schedules**
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have reliable transportation and be able to work from our Arlington, VA location. This internship is paid and is located at The National Weather Desk (TNWD).
