Job Description

Responsibilities
Assignment Desk:
Make beat checks, enter information for current and future news assignments.
Assist with phone calls, sort/distribute newsroom communications.
Coordinate with field crews on contacts, video, directions, etc.
Communicate with producers on incoming show elements.
Help with newsgathering/research.

Writing/Producing/Editing:
Assist with script writing for various newscasts.
Log sound that has been shot by field crews.
Edit video for newscasts using non-linear editing systems.

Create visually-appealing and informational graphics.

Consumer/Political/ITeam Research:
Perform background research working with consumer and political reporters.
Talk with contacts and follow up on emails and setting up stories.
Help investigative Team research story ideas and log interviews.
Screen calls and email for good story ideas.

Sports:
Assist with writing sports scripts, editing sports highlights and logging highlights of all sporting events.
May assist sports crew in the field at various sporting events.

Photojournalists:
Understand and practice safety guidelines in the field.
Record news events, interviews, press conferences, etc.
Learn and understand various transmission processes.
Understand file transfer protocols.

Digital:
Contribute to NBC 7 digital content and social media accounts.
Assist with phone/in-person interviews.
Edit video for various online platforms.
Construct online articles using different elements.

Above all, understand and practice ethical journalism in every role.

Qualifications/Requirements
Must be functional in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Desired Characteristics

AP Style writing knowledge
Desktop video editing (non-liner preferred)
Interactive graphic development
Use of content management system for digital publication.
