About the Role & Program

We are the publisher behind National Geographic's signature content, breathtaking photography, iconic magazine, and unsurpassed social media presence. Within NG Media's Editorial team, the Photo department is responsible for producing and curating visual content for National Geographic across photography and immersive digital experiences, for use in print, digital, and social platforms. It builds and maintains relationships with a diverse group of global contributors who not only create visual content but develop wide-ranging and ambitious editorial ideas for the brand. The team is tasked with creating compelling, groundbreaking, best-in-class work that advances our understanding of the world. The approximate date of this internship are May/June 2025 through August/September 2025. If selected for this opportunity, you will report to the Director of Photography. A cover letter indicating your interest in the National Geographic Photo Editing Intern, Summer 2025 position is required.
What You Will Do
• Research a wide range of stories and partner with visual editors to identify compelling visual solutions across our platforms.
• Work with a Photo Editor mentor on assigned tasks with clear goals and deadlines as well as give constructive feedback on the results of their photo research and editing.
• Opportunities to work on short-term and more in-depth photo research/editing projects, as well as a chance to collaborate with both the mentor and other seasoned photo/video/design staff on projects they are involved in.
• Opportunity to sit in on a photo edit or design session with colleagues working on a feature story or similar task
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Interest in photography and photojournalism, which can include coursework and examples of work showing excellent visual taste and an appreciation for visual storytelling
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous projects and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
• Curiosity about video/social media a plus
• Passion for history, science, environment, and/or wildlife
Education
• Junior or Senior year preferred
• Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Photojournalism, Visual Arts or a related field
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
• Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information
• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2025 through August/September 2025.
• Fully available from Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm EST for the duration of the internship, 40 hours each week
• Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Washington DC area
• Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
