CHARACTER INTERN

What You'll Do

Epic Games Fortnite team is looking for a creative Character Intern to join them in 2025. In this talented team of veteran and emerging artists you'll collaborate across teams and contribute directly to Fortnite! Joining this team means you're motivated to create engaging scenes that introduce new concepts, characters or experiences to our audience of players.
Our goal is to give each new beat for Fortnite its first impression and keep our audience on their toes with what might be coming next. You'll be asked to contribute ideas and collaborate with others in deciding how to depict the untold stories of our characters and the awesome events that take our players to new worlds.

Potential Intern profiles we are seeking within Character art:
• Concept Art Intern
• 3D Character Artist Intern

As a Concept Art Intern, you could:
• Concept major marketing features for Fortnite including key art, IP integrations, and in-game events
• Create concepts or characters based on direction from the Art Director and game design team
• Sketch ideas that can then be blocked out in Unreal Engine by the screenshots team

As a Character Art Intern you could:
• Create, assemble and maintain state-of-the-art real-time characters in UE5
• Work with Unreal Engine's MetaHumans for real-time and linear cinematic content
• Collaborate with multiple teams from character artists, to animators, to technical artists
• Create 3D characters, enemies, and character accessories such as backpacks in ZBrush/Maya

What we're looking for in a Concept Art Intern:
• Concept art portfolio required with application
• Strong foundational skills in composition, value, and dynamic posing
• Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood & focal points
• Knowledge of Photoshop required
• Knowledge of 3D programs like Unreal and Maya are a plus
• Strong sense of storytelling through camera compositions
• Experience in storyboarding, previs and thumbnailing are also encouraged

What we're looking for in a Character Art Intern:
• Portfolio showcasing artistic and technical aptitude
• Knowledge of character workflow including modeling, texturing, rigging and animation
• Experience integrating characters in Unreal Engine
• Passion for all aspects of character art creation
• Skilled in 3D content creation programs like ZBrush, Maya/3DSMax
• Knowledge of Marmoset, Substance and Unreal Engine is a plus
• Skills in composition, value, and dynamic posing is a plus
• Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood & focal points
• Traditional drawing skills and knowledge of the human anatomy is a plus

This internship has a flexible start date in 2025. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match.
