KABC-TV (ABC7) Community Engagement Intern, Summer/Fall 2025

About the Role & Program

KABC-TV (ABC7) is an ABC owned television station (OTV), located in Glendale, near downtown Los Angeles. The station is in the #2 ranked television market in the country. Weekly, our team at ABC7 produces over sixty-three hours of local news, public affairs, magazine programs and public service campaigns! You will have an opportunity to participate in developmental programming, contribute to daily operations of a major market television station, and learn about what we do.

We are looking for an intern to join our collaborative team. You will be provided a view of all aspects of content creation, production and operations of our Community Engagement & Development department at ABC7. This includes working with us on station-corporate initiatives and events originated by ABC7, such as our annual holiday toy drive and Feed SoCal!

The approximate dates of this internship are June 2025 through early January 2026.

What You Will Do
• Create digital-original storytelling around our station initiatives and in-kind support of nonprofit partnerships in Southern California
• Assist with production of our station's initiatives such as the Feed SoCal Food Drive, the community engagement calendar, community engagement events, and Belong team as needed
• Engage through social media accounts for the station
• Interact with ABC7 community and corporate partners via Teams calls, email and phone
• Connect with community-based non-profit organizations, and the communities that interact with and are supported by ABC7

Required Qualifications & Skills
• Experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Previous experience working in an office setting, including answering emails and phone calls
• Experience using social media platforms to engage with an audience

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in journalism, community engagement, corporate citizenship & social responsibility, event planning, urban development, and/or social media/branding
• Familiar with news writing, including AP Style
• Demonstrative video editing experience, such as with Adobe Premiere, iMovie, or Dalet
• Ability to shoot video, edit and write original storytelling for multiple platforms
• Experience using Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, Google Docs, and/or Canva

Education
• Junior or Senior year preferred
• Major or previous coursework in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major

Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
• Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information
• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• The approximate dates of this internship are June 2025 through early January 2026
• Fully available to work 40 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor and could include nights and/or weekends)
• Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program​ in the Glendale, California area
• Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work​

The pay rate for this role in California is $17.75 per hour.
