Description

TV and Film Development jobs include all the pre-production tasks to identify, acquire, or develop a story and forecast what the potential audience would be for a production based on that content.

Background

Before any production can begin, development executives must determine what content they want to spend money on and produce. First, they need to identify content either through in-house concepts or sourced by reading scripts submitted through external channels. Then, they need to analyze the project and evaluate its overall marketability and financial opportunity. Finally, they need to develop the completed script that the production will use on-set.

TV development jobs and movie development careers require a keen interest in storytelling, and they also demand experience. Understanding the structure of a good script and being able to apply that knowledge to dozens of projects is a part of the job. Knowing who to hire is also dependent on one's exposure to the industry. Every project needs a skilled and passionate development team to provide the groundwork for production.
