Job Description

The 3D Animator collaborates with the Art Director and Lead Animator to help create jaw-dropping animations that fit with the needs of the project. The right applicant will be a highly motivated animator with excellent communication skills and a passion for making compelling in-game animations.

Key Accountabilities:
• Maintain a high level of animation quality while working within design constraints and balancing performance issues.
• Creating full-body and facial animations for use in both in-game and cinematics.
• Helping with characters and rigs, while also working in engine making characters and objects game ready.
• Participate in the continual refinement of animation tools and production pipeline.
• Set the standard for less-experienced animators.
• Regular communication with production regarding animation tasks and timelines.
• Participate in group planning of your animation tasks with other departments (code, design, art etc.) for deadlines called Sprints every 1-2 weeks.
• Chart the progress of your tasks for the producer.
• Collaborate with all departments and team members like Technical Artists regarding exporting and in house tools etc. if necessary.

Autonomy:

You are free to complete your animation tasks in the order that benefits yourself and the team. Balance your own creativity and ideas with the documented vision of the game and genre expectations. Larger animation tasks (e.g. cut scenes) will require concepting & approval by the Art Director before polishing and should be done as early as possible. You will liaise with design to meet their requirements and ensure animation assets are exploited to best effect.

Qualifications
• 3 years minimum of experience as an animator in the video game or related industry.
• Strong understanding of traditional animation principles, methods, techniques and pipeline procedures, as well as a strong understanding of human anatomy and the physics of human motion.
• Strong organizational skills that translate into successful and timely deliverables.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken. Able to collaborate with team members of different disciplines to improve tools. Proactive in solving problems.
• Knowledge of character rigging, skinning and weighting.
• Traditional art background advantageous.
• VFX experience advantageous.

Bonus Experience
• Experience working within a Live Operated game
• Experience with Confluence and / or JIRA workflows
