ASSIGNMENT EDITOR (NIGHTSIDE) - WLBT

WLBT is Mississippi's flagship station and the dominant #1 local TV and digital media in Central Mississippi. We are an NBC affiliate that consistently produces award winning local news coverage. Jackson, MS is market #97 with a 24 county DMA. Job Summary/Description:

WLBT is looking for an aggressive, experienced assignment editor with solid news judgment who can juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to a constantly changing environment. The ideal candidate must be the calm in the chaos while evaluating resources, making good decisions, and communicating clearly and effectively under deadline.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinate planning and execution of coverage plan across multiple platforms
• Managing logistics and resources
• Newsgathering (including developing story ideas, confirming information, breaking news coverage)
• Creating and publishing content to digital and social media platforms
• Monitoring scanners and social media
• Communicating with broadcast and digital producers, field crews

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Outstanding communication skills
- Excellent time management
- News judgment
- Working understanding of social media platforms
- Basic newsgathering skillset
- Basic knowledge of video editing a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field is preferred, equivalent experience considered
- Experience as a producer, photographer, or reporter/ MMJ preferred
