Job Description

WJAR, Southern New England's News Leader and one of America's most-watched television stations, is looking for a dynamic full-time Live Desk Anchor for our upcoming 4 pm newscast. The right candidate will continuously monitor news feeds and social media for breaking news, turning content as soon as it becomes available. You should expect a lot of air time! When needed, the right candidate will also report from the field and fill-in anchor on other newscasts. This is your chance to make your mark at a historically dominant station as we look to dominate a new time period. We are building this show from scratch – so being open to creativity and innovation is mandatory!
Our winning candidate will also be someone who embraces social media and knows how to engage with the audience consistently.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Strong leadership skills
• Smooth/pleasant delivery
• Strong conversational writing skills and news judgment
• Sharp video shooting and editing skills
• Exemplary communication skills

Requirements and Qualifications:
• 3 years of on-air experience at a commercial television station
• Strong ''in the field'' and ''live'' skills
• Solid understanding of current and emerging social media
• Strong editorial judgment and a proven ethical foundation
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred
