About WDAM:

WDAM is the #1 station in the Hattiesburg-Laurel DMA. We are dominant on broadcast and digital and produce news on WDAM NBC and WDAM ABC. Hattiesburg-Laurel is market 167 and we reach viewers in eight counties (Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Perry and Wayne). WDAM is less than two hours driving distance to New Orleans, Mobile and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a great station and company.

Job Summary/Description:

WDAM is looking for someone with a strong commitment to journalistic standards and ethics inside and outside of the newsroom. You must have a proven track record of creating compelling and engaging stories across multiple platforms. You must be able to work with our marketing team and other managers to expand our brand to all digital platforms. The successful candidate will plan and execute special projects, elections, sweeps, special reports and work with our news team to make sure the needs of our audience are met.

Primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Manage a newscast, news crew and newsroom
* Review scripts daily and provide feedback to motivate powerful storytelling with producers and reporters
* Contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking news and severe weather situations
* Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all media devices
* Develop and train news producers
* Manage scheduling
* Demonstrate effective newsroom leadership
* Work on projects independently, one-on-one and with a team
* Have strong organizational skills & prioritize complex tasks
* Produce newscasts when needed
* Be available to work holidays, weekends, and extended hours as needed

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Work well under pressure, manage breaking news and meet strict deadlines. Have at least 2 years of experience developing, creating and executing content for broadcast, digital and social is required. Previous experience with long-form storytelling and investigations are a plus. College degree in journalism or equivalent is required.
