Senior Reporter II, VICE World News

EMEA

Role x You:

VICE World News is looking for an exceptional experienced multi-platform journalist to join our team in EMEA as Senior Reporter. The right person for this role has a deep background in international reporting, principally concerning the EMEA region, experience of reporting from overseas in challenging circumstances, and a willingness to be regularly deployed internationally. They're also enthusiastic about finding new ways to report and explain news events to our audience, especially with vertical video formats, and eager to host digital news programming. Finally, this person has experience covering at least three of the following core areas: Extremist groups including the far-right; protests, revolutions, armed conflict and authoritarian regimes; the power structures and politics that shape how people, drugs, money, and weaponry cross borders; the climate crisis and underrepresented communities.

The Senior Reporter will report to the Editor-in-Chief in London.
• In the short term you will…
• Seek out and report on major news stories.
• Work across different publishing platforms.
• Present story ideas to the Editor-in-Chief.
• Have a clear idea of the stories that matter and how we approach them.
• After 6 months in this role you will…
• Be regularly bringing in exclusive news stories.
• Be able to report and execute on quick pieces, enterprise, and features while also working on vertical video and multi-platform projects as needed.
• Help to mentor more junior colleagues on the team.
• And after a year you will…
• Be working with other news departments or LOBs on multi-platform ideas.

Responsibilities:
• Be an ambassador for VICE World News at all times.
• Routinely show up as a reporter on VWN social platforms.
• Own your beat in terms of daily coverage and exclusives.
• Publish work across multiple platforms.
• Assist the VICE World News desk in day-to-day coverage.

You have these:
• At least 7 years experience working professionally as a reporter.
• A deep knowledge of international affairs and understanding of online journalism.
• Experience and evidence of working across multiple platforms and not just text.
• On-the-ground experience deploying on international reporting trips.
• Enthusiasm for experimenting with new ways of storytelling.

We'd love if you also have these:
• Proficiency/fluency in Arabic, French, Spanish or Russian.
• A prominent presence on social media platforms.
• Experience with on-camera work, particularly self-shot.
