Summary of Position
The Director, Media Strategy and Planning is responsible for leading the development of comprehensive media strategies for Starz that drive awareness, buzz, and tune-in for the original productions. This role is integrated, so a strong background in both digital and traditional media is preferred. This is a fast-paced, multi-faceted position that requires creativity, improvisation, organization, and communication at a high level.
Responsibilities
• Works with Senior Vice President and Vice President to manage the development of data-driven media campaigns, ensuring that all plans are strategically sound, have a clear point-of-view, and align with the overall marketing strategy.
• Assist with media budget investments across both short and long-term projects and upfront commitments.
• Serve as the liaison with the media research team on all measurement and attribution projects ensuring that learnings are applied wherever possible.
• Partner with other Starz disciplines (PR, Direct Response, Marketing, Research, Programming, Creative Services, and Distribution) to ensure media strategies that are consistent with overall business objectives.
• Oversee the communication and documentation of standard and non-traditional creative development and deliverable needs.
• Lead the day-to-day work flow across an internal paid media team and an external media agency, managing the overall campaign timelines.
• Manage agency performance against campaign objectives, including tracking budgets, savings, make-goods, and credits.
• Represent Starz in the development and maintenance of numerous media vendor relationships in order to provide leadership and campaign support.
Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or equivalent field required.
• Minimum of 10+ years of solid experience in the field of media (agency and/or client side).
• Minimum of 5+ years supervisory experience, including the ability to train and develop staff at various levels.
• Must have strong judicious, analytical and communications skills.
• Must have the ability to make clear and concise oral and written presentations to all levels of the organization and to a variety of audiences.
• Must have a strong work ethic, integrity and good business acumen.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the Judicious Marketing Group and the broader Marketing, Research, and Product teams.
• Must have the ability to manage multiple projects at once and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal communications skills (written and presentation) will be required to work across a highly matrixed internal team and across external agencies.
• Strong digital experience (including social) with a deep understanding of how to use data and insights to inform the media planning process.
• A naturally competitive person who strives to generate winning strategies.
• Should be a strong negotiator and have proven track record in managing the financial and contractual flow of multi-million dollar media campaigns.
• An experienced, highly judicious marketer who has relevant industry experience within television and/or entertainment.
• This individual will need to possess a high level of strategy skill sets as well as have proven experience in building and managing multi-tactical media plans. They will need to exhibit strong and extensive knowledge of all types of media and related stewardship to ensure media investments are both cost-efficient and target-effective.
