Executive Director, TV Distribution Business Affairs

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has an opening for an Executive Director position on its TV Distribution Business Affairs team. This position is operationally integrated within the SPT business unit and is responsible for providing business affairs and legal support for the organization's North America television distribution business and US syndication and ad sales businesses. The position will be based in the SPT offices in Los Angeles.

Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the lead business affairs representative on deal structuring and negotiations involving complex transactions with an emphasis on distribution of the studio's feature films and television series across premium pay, basic cable, SVOD, AVOD, free ad-supported streaming television (FAST), and other emerging television business models.
• Partner with the TV distribution sales team to advise on deal structuring and provide practical counseling to maximize deal terms while effectively managing legal risk.
• Handle primary drafting and negotiating of long form license agreements, term sheets, offer letters, and correspondence with minimal oversight.
• Analyze, interpret, manage, and advise on contractual commitments and MFN terms across deals and lines of business.
• Collaborate with SPE's content protection team to ensure licensing deal terms are consistent with studio policies on DRM, antipiracy efforts, and content usage rules.
• Partner with colleagues in SPE's Legal department to best coordinate, prioritize, and streamline legal support.
• Provide business affairs and legal support as needed on local market syndication, ad sales and integration deals.
• Research and analyze rights availability and clearance status for studio's library of feature films and television series and summarize and disseminate information to various stakeholders across the company.
• Other matters and related duties at the direction of the Senior Vice President, Distribution Business Affairs.

Requirements:
• Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership to the California State Bar in good standing.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant transactional legal experience in-house at a studio, major media company, network, or streaming service, and/or at a nationally recognized top law firm.
• Proven expertise in television distribution and in-depth knowledge of the evolving television landscape.
• Exceptional drafting, negotiating, and analytical skills, with significant experience leading, progressing, and guiding negotiations through to closure with optimal results.
• Ability to function both independently and in a team-oriented environment to provide top-quality deal support and produce superior work product.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to recognize, prioritize, and respond quickly to multiple time-sensitive situations.
• Effective communicator (verbal and written) with an ability to interact professionally and comfortably with internal and external constituents of all levels.
• Great attention to detail, strong business sense, and ability to exercise sound judgement.
• Proven track record of developing strong relationships across multiple business units, departments, and their representatives.
• Self-directed, diplomatic, confidence-inspiring and problem-solving personality.
