We are currently seeking an Assistant to join Knopf's editorial team. The editorial assistant will support the two executive editors – one editing primarily literary and upmarket commercial fiction, and another editing nonfiction that includes history, narrative nonfiction, and journalism . Daily responsibilities include proposal/manuscript reading, drafting cover copy, and project management. In addition to providing administrative support, the assistant will liaise extensively with authors, agents, and different departments within the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

The Role:
• Evaluating manuscripts, writing reader's reports, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters
• Scheduling, project management and general support for manager
• Writing and editing catalog, flap, and marketing copy for in-house and out-of-house promotional use
• Preparing title information sheets and other marketing materials
• Working closely with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to keep track of the production process from finished manuscript to bound book
• Creating P&Ls and contract information sheets, collecting sales data, and providing competitive title research
• Providing administrative support, which includes executing mailings, fielding questions from authors, and occasional answering of phones.
• Attending weekly editorial meetings, as well as author meetings to discuss new projects and publicity plans for existing projects.

• Ability to take initiative and problem-solve creatively
• Familiarity with contemporary literature and journalism.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
