Design Operations Assistant

We are seeking an Design Operations Assistant to join the Ad Promo Design Operations team of Penguin Publishing Group, part of Penguin Random House . This individual will support Art Directors and Designers on a small and fast-paced highly creative design team with a wide-range of administrative, organizational, workflow-related responsibilities as well as execute templated design projects.

Working in the Viking, Penguin, Penguin Classics and Riverhead imprints of the Penguin Publishing Group, this role provides an excellent opportunity for learning about book publishing and marketing from a design perspective. You will gain a broad understanding of what happens behind the scenes (from the general to the particular) when a book is being shaped to enter the competitive marketplace.

Responsibilities include:
--Trafficking all non-advertising job requests for design team

​--Providing specific support and project management assistance for design team on project work, including liaising with imprint marketing staff
--Tracking ongoing projects to help team manage workflow and deadlines including communicating with Art Directors and Designers daily
--Representing Design team concerns as key liason with Ad Buyers, meeting with their point person regularly to discuss ad campaigns and timelines
--Maintaining department files and database management, including use of Box software
--Creating back ads for printed books based on templated designs
--Providing general assistance & support to design team on various projects

To be successful in this role you will need to have:
• Genuine interest in book publishing and book-oriented social media
• Project management and workflow skills, including the ability to create and adhere to timelines and move projects forward
• Be a visual thinker with a strong interest in design as it applies to marketing
• Excellent with organizational systems
• Excellent written, proofreading and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Desire to work under tight deadlines, adapting on the fly in an ever-changing marketing environment with a dynamic team
• In addition to a foundation of project management, this role calls for curiosity and flexibility
• Proficient in Excel; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud a huge plus
