Job Description
Ross Overdrive Operator and Acuity Switcher operator for a fast-paced live Television News show. Candidate will be responsible for operating Ross Overdrive system using Ross Caprica to produce live news broadcasts and pre-produced content. Code shows in ENPS, create all necessary show templates and Ross custom controls. Must be very familiar with a MOS based automated Newsroom. Familiarity with Ross Xpression graphics systems, Vinten Robotics and Wheatstone Audio Console is desired.
• DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare and execute the operation of the Ross automated production control system for live and recorded television broadcasts. Using a ENPS, code rundowns for all Newscasts.

Creation and utilization of templates to automate production functions including: technical directing, audio mixing, video playback, graphics insertion, robotic operations, live/remote segment cut-ins. Integrate commercial playback.
Other responsibilities include; Audio (A1), Audio Assist (A2) , Video shading, Robotics, BitCentral ingest / playback, Camera Operation and Ross Xpression graphics playback.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

College graduate or equivalent technical training. Communications, Electronic Technology, or related degree is helpful. Two years of related job experience.

Physical

This position requires minor lifting and some walking, as it involves the setup of a television show. The ability to carry 50 pounds of equipment, including camera, cables, tripod and various television equipment is required on a daily basis. The ability to sit for long periods is necessary. Able to execute commands based upon aural directives. High visual and aural acuity along with data entry using a keyboard.

Exposure to low noise levels.
Other

Ability to work closely with Talent and Production staff often without supervision. Ability to work under tight deadline and time constraints. Ability to make quick decisions that are both content coherent and technically accurate. Work hours may include overnights, evenings, weekends and holidays.

COMPLEXITY

Highly complex system. Must have outstanding computer skills. Understanding of Audio and Video theory and techniques. Knowledge of FCC regulations in regard to technical Audio/Video standards to ensure WPIX compliance.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

The Overdrive Operator must often make critical last-minute decisions. Due to the nature of the News business, late breaking stories for example, quick decision-making abilities are critical to the success of the News show. Failure to act quickly and accurately can result in a loss of revenue or legal action taken against the station.

WORK RELATIONSHIP

Internal: Contact primarily with News and Engineering staff members.

External: Guests, often with celebrity status.
