Digital Content Producer / Assignment Editor

Job Description

The 12 News digital content producer should be a responsible journalist who is passionate about news, innovative, creative, and reliable. This position will include duties for both our digital platforms and performing assignment desk duties such as managing field crews, listening to scanners, confirming facts and assigning reporter stories.

The digital content producer and assignment editor writes stories for our digital platforms and social media accounts and collaborates with an editorial team.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Gather and verify factual information for news stories through observation, interview and research
• Write stories for multiple platforms: broadcast, digital and social media
• Write stories in AP style following editorial and formatting guidelines
• Produce unique digital content and write compelling, SEO strong stories and headlines
• Set up interviews, monitor scanners, email tips, confirm information, and evaluate stories
• Update newsroom about news items and story updates
• Work with management and news team on content decisions and assignments
• Help coordinate live shots
• Edit, clip and publish video for digital publication
• Adhere to editorial standards and practices of 12 News
• Respond positively to feedback and direction. Team player
• Other duties as assigned

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills
• Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of 12 News viewer needs and expectations
• Must be able to interact well with the news team and other departments
• Detail oriented
• Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods
• Proficient and savvy in social media platforms, tools, and best practices

Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, TV/film or equivalent experience may substitute, television or radio broadcast/production.

Training/Equipment: Utilize state-of-the-art web and television technology; WordPress, INews

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Must be available to work weekends. High stress environment with deadline pressures. Flexible schedule and occasional overtime
