Job Description
With millions of subscribers enjoying great content in over 190 countries, Netflix is shaping the future of entertainment with one simple goal: to entertain the world. EMEA is the largest market outside of the US, where we are determined to increase our offer of great content and bring joy to more and more members. It's an incredibly exciting time to work at Netflix.

Netflix seeks an Employment Counsel, UK/EMEA, to join our growing Global Employment Legal team. This position is based in our London office and will help provide both employment legal and employee relations support to our UK office and to our productions in the UK and across the EMEA region. The role reports to the Director of Production Employment Legal, EMEA, who is also based in London. In addition you'd be working closely with the Director of Corporate Employment Legal, EMEA based in Amsterdam, the Global Director who is based in Los Gatos, California and the rest of our global team in The Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore and California.

EMEA is already a strong market, but the size, complexity and growth opportunity in the region means there is much more to do. The ideal candidate will welcome the opportunity to be part of a fast‐paced and entrepreneurial company.

Requirements

We are looking for a UK qualified lawyer with substantial UK employment law experience either in private practice or in-house, and ideally with experience advising on international employment issues. The successful candidate is likely to have a minimum of 5+ years' PQE experience, although we also wish to consider more senior candidates. We will also consider ER specialists who are legally qualified and who had strong employment law experience before moving into ER.

Experience of conducting/leading employment-related investigations would be useful. Experience of advising on, or working in, the TV and film industry or the entertainment industry is also useful but not essential. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where freedom and responsibility are core values, and passion, innovation and curiosity are essential.

Counsel for UK/EMEA will get involved with the following:
• Advising on corporate employment issues in the UK in collaboration with the talent teams.
• Advising on production-related employment issues in the UK and across the EMEA region in collaboration with members of Production HR, Business and Legal Affairs, Physical Production, Safety, Content, and other teams who support our local productions.
• Providing subject matter expertise on a broad range of employment issues, including engaging cast and crew, misclassification risks, working time issues, discrimination, harassment and other employment practices, equality issues, and terminations arising on our productions filming in various countries throughout EMEA.
• Carrying out ER investigations in the UK and on our EMEA-based productions.
• Working with our third party local production companies on managing higher-risk and higher-profile issues arising on their productions across EMEA.
• Supporting our Production HR team in the delivery of our Respect@ inclusion training for cast and crew working on productions.
• Proactively identifying, assessing, and balancing employment law risk, and offering practical, business-oriented and creative solutions in partnership with key stakeholders.
• Staying abreast of, and advising on, legal developments.
• Collaborating with the Global Employment Legal team on global issues.
• Managing and using outside counsel effectively.
• Supporting Netflix's commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive workplace and productions.

You are the right person for this role if:
• You will thrive in our Culture and you are excited by Who We Are as a company.
• You have deep knowledge of employment laws in the UK and some experience advising on employment issues in other EMEA countries.
• You are able to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
• Whether an introvert, extrovert or somewhere in between, you thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment, possess an abundance of intellectual curiosity, focus on generating results, and exhibit the highest personal and professional standards of integrity and ethics.
• You are able to carry out investigations in a sensitive and empathetic way.
• You are a strong team player.
• You are able to quickly and sensitively build rapport and trust with your employment legal colleagues and local partners and key stakeholders, and value these relationships as essential to success.
• You consistently exercise great judgment without agonizing, resulting in fast action and smart decisions.
• You are able to work effectively and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, think practically, are solution-oriented, and keep a cool head in high-stress situations.
• You are open-minded and able to pivot if the business needs change.
• You have a great sense of humor and are passionate about our business.
