Job Description
The Senior Editor is expected to be a manager of both people and content, while also being responsible for editing and maintenance of ESPN's Mobile Apps and push notifications. On a daily basis, this person will assess content from a variety of sources (includes wire services, media partners, ESPN staffers, freelancers, plus interactive elements, social media, audio and video) to determine how it fits into our daily news coverage and programming needs. The editor evaluates all front-page copy and headlines, provides feedback on all art and video, and works to package this content in a manner that is dynamic enough to entice users to delve deeper into the site. This person will send push notifications to ESPN's array of sports fans, oftentimes to multiple millions of fans at a time and at reasonably fast speeds compared to our competitors. Must be an excellent writer, able to present and share headlines and stories accurately in tight spaces. They must show good judgment in prioritizing content for a national audience while keeping in mind the experience of specific fan bases. This role is often responsible for tactical planning, providing vision of daily coverage and assignments while clearly communicating across a matrixed organization.

Responsibilities:
• The Senior Editor will assess multiple stories on a daily basis. These will include managing, news, highlights and original written content with a style and voice consistent with ESPN's digital coverage.
• Along with the daily programming roles, the Senior Editor will be involved in short and long-term editorial planning, creating programming and alerts strategies specifically tailored to the content and audience consumption patterns. They coordinate staffing assignments, resources and processes.
• Senior Editors track more than 125 ESPN reporters, including breaking news from the most visible contributors.
• The Senior Editor will collaborate across multiple content teams to maximize audience for news, feature packages and developing stories on a daily basis.

Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years working in a high-level sports media environment, including previous leadership roles.
• Possess an expert-level knowledge of one or more of NFL, NBA, MLB, College Football, major soccer leagues, MMA and College Basketball, including fantasy and betting. This includes not just on-field expertise, but a knowledge of developing trends, storylines and tone around overall sports conversations.
• Understand and follow closely the latest in fan engagement data and key performance metrics to optimize content creation and distribution to fans.
• Strong understanding and appreciation of news and story play.
• Excellent headline writing skills, an understanding of search engine optimization.
• Work quickly in a live newsroom environment and juggle multiple varied tasks during a typical work day.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in online media content preparation. Applicants must have the ability to work in a rapidly changing online environment.
• Sports takes place on nights, weekends and holidays -- and those shifts will be regular and required.
• Have a background or quickly become competent in HTML.
• Prolific on social media and/or keeping up with developing news and trending topics while parsing out the most accurate, dependable and relevant information.

Required Education
• Bachelor's degree in Communication Arts, Journalism or New Media or equivalent combination of education experience.

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
